Our generation and future generations need to help each other. We have serious environmental, social, economic, and nutritional, and health problems. Our generation and future generations will be dealing with their aftermath in the coming years.
Many people's hopes of a superhero figure and a noble person with special talents and charisma who will save the world can be quite limited and do ignore the historical necessity of cooperation from many people. Even the near mythical, but still only human figures in history from negative persons in the form of Hitler or Stalin and positive people such as Ghandi or Martin Luther King would have never have had power if not for the will of a group of people behind them. If Martin Luther King came of age now, when the President of the United States is a black man, he would not have had the same opporunities he would have had in the past.
Besides, the fact that there are important figures for the benefit or detriment of human beings, our problems require many people of different talents rather than one person with the power of charisma, however important that person is. Jared Diamond, the anthropologist and author of Collapse(a books which deal with historical civilization's collapses and technological advanced civilizations of the other) was asked what was the single biggest environmental problem today. His response was, "The single biggest environmental problem is thinking there is a single biggest problem." Jared Diamond then pointed out that there multifaceted problems which will need multifaceted solutions.
We need public speakers, but we also need permaculturists, herbalists, and teachers and more than I can mention. I've named my interests but there are others that others have that are just as important. Like I've said- many people with different talents.
Okay so what's my point getting out needing many leaders. Don't we have them? Yes, I guess so, but often what we have are lot of people who are afraid to alienate their consituents when there belief systems are challenged. Personally, I will not promote mercury filled eco bulbs that cost 10 dollars instead of 1 dollar, no matter how many people have bought into that propoganda.
We need noble people, who are still totally flawed humans that are morally commited to making this world a better place. Being a totally flawed human with good intentions is something most people can qualify for. We can change things. We know the strength of people working towards common goals and yet the environmental movement struggles against a goliath that is capitalism. And by economic principles the two are not compatible. However, we can see the value of for keeping our existence on our planet and the intelligent motives rselves alive on this oasis in our solar system.
These people will need to accept true facts and rational understandings of the world.
From my side of the mission, I'm interested in gathering people together for a simple mission.
There are better writers than me who are more imaginative, more humble, and more effective but I feel there megafones aren't loud enough and there publishers not big enough to spread the word by themselves. People need to get the message.
The mission is essentially the same. People can spread the word about things others are doing that explain how to be sustainable through the media tag, "Sustainable How." This is not an original idea, but I wish to focus my energies on the web on this idea and I welcome those who can help me, We can pull people together from those who are hungry for this information to those who are surfing on the web disastisfied with their corporate life and searching for something more in life.
We could offer information:
1. to enable people green businesses for themselves and their families for interest in sustainability
2. to network with green people who are doing green things
3. to exchange knowledge, good and services such as food preservation, clothing making, green shopping, and transitional knowledge to a greener life
4. to go beyond the idea of money but the use of bartering, hosting, and timesharing
5. to go Beyond DIY and self-sufficiency practices and think about incorporated self-sufficiency with community
6. to those who want to move beyond consumerism and develop a community
7. to re-evolve local economies and local business structure
8. to those who want more from this life than spend all day in from of a computer screen
9. to promote eco-living communities
10. as an easier source to information than we ourselves have had.
These are what the normal people with noble goals can do and noble people with simple goals can do. We can not have martyrs and scapegoats but people interested saving and repairing whats left for the future. We need these people and ourselves to gather positive spirit, become stronger, and to help others become stronger physically and mentally.
It will never be easy, but it will be satisfying to do.
